Creators of Peace

Creators of Peace transforms, empowers and engages women in peace creation.

The Creators of Peace (CoP) women's initiative was launched in 1991 at the Initiatives of Change conference centre in Caux, Switzerland by the Hon Anna Abdallah Msekwa of Tanzania, a respected politician and leader of her country's women's organizations. In her inaugural speech, she urged everyone to 'create peace wherever we are, in our hearts, our homes, our workplace and our community. We all pretend that someone else is the stumbling block… Could that someone be myself?'

CoP is now a global network of people working on different continents through Creators of Peace Circles, workshops, personal encounters, community building activities and international conferences - Caux, Switzerland '91 and '94, India 2001, Uganda 2005 and Australia 2009. A delegation attended the UN Women's Conference in Beijing (1995). In 2016, the 25th anniversary of CoP was celebrated in Caux through the 'Living Peace' 2016 Conference

Peace One Day

Some suggestions to inspire us to take action in support of the International Day of Peace, a day dedicated each year by the United Nations to the cessation of violence.

The call to CoP was to facilitate a Peace Circle (PC) for 15 men, between the ages of 17 and 44 years from 6th - 8th June. They came from different Coloured (mixed race) communities in and around Soweto. The hope was that the PC could support their recovery and healing journey also equip them with methods and tools to grow spiritually and to walk the talk.

Living Peace Conference Closing Day 2016

The 25th anniversary of Creators of Peace was celebrated by 200 plus participants from 43 countries at the 'Living Peace' conference held in Caux, Switzerland, from August 4-10 2016. From the start all were invited to search for clues to living peace. It was suggested that the new story for the world can result from individuals and communities applying those clues to their own lives in the practice of peace.

'In the middle of wars, pain and sadness there is a place, a programme and a woman who are providing hope, love and enthusiasm for life'.
