Initiatives of Change (IofC) is a world-wide movement of people of diverse cultures and backgrounds, who work towards a just, peaceful and sustainable world. All share a commitment to the transformation of society through change in human motives and behaviour, starting with their own.
For over 80 years, Initiatives of Change has made a crucial contribution all over the world by focusing on the vital link between personal change and global change. It aims to inspire people to play their part in building a better society and to support them in doing so.
While methods of coordinating a global work evolve as succeeding generations take on responsibility, the essential philosophy of IofC remains the same – that personal change can lead to world change.
Today’s social, political, economic and environmental crises demonstrate humanity’s interdependence and the need for global cooperation on a new scale. Yet many of us are unwilling to change our living and thinking, determined to hang on to the illusion of independence and self-sufficiency.
With its emphasis on starting with oneself, and on experience rather than theory, Initiatives of Change meets this central need head on. It provides a creative space where people of different religious and political persuasions can collaborate without compromising their own beliefs. It aims to forge a global network committed to working for change in the world.
Over the past three years, the Initiatives of Change movement has recommitted itself to a global vision and collaborative action, building on its grassroots strengths. Having reaffirmed the core values and agreed clear focus areas, Initiatives of Change International and its Member bodies are ready to make a more incisive contribution on critical world issues as set out in this plan.
One of IofC’s greatest strengths has always been its bottom-up approach, flowing from the work of dedicated individuals and teams. They are a constant source of inspiration and it is to them, and with them, that we offer this vision of how to achieve our maximum potential together.
