GLOBAL UPDATE is a four page newsletter published every two months by Initiatives of Change-International. Two pages consist of latest news, with the last two pages, 'People Building Trust', giving in greater depth the story of a changemaker. Global Update No 29: January 2012

Issue 29 reports on the sixth annual conference of Caux Initiatives for Business (CIB), Asia Pacific regional group, held in India in November. The Harambee Leadership Training Programme took place in Nigeria, with participants working alongside Pastor Wuye and Imam Ashafa, who feature in the film The Imam and the Pastor. There is also news from South Africa, the United States and Rwanda. In People Building Trust Mike Lowe talks to the new President of Initiatives of Change, Dr Omnia Marzouk, who feels called to heal and to build trust.

Global Update No 28: November 2011

Issue 28 reports on the 2011 Caux conferences focussing on the human dimension, with over 1,200 people from all over the world taking part. There is also news from Nepal, where IofC’s Creators of Peace initiative recently expanded, Kenya, the UK and also Australia, who recently hosted the 17th in a series of Asia Pacific Youth Conferences. In People Building Trust Mary Ella Keblusek reports on The Trust Factor, a series of panels, dialogues, workshops and other events held in venues throughout Washington DC from 10 to 15 October. The events brought together a diverse group of people from Washington and beyond to explore the need for trust in politics, race, economics and religion.

Global Update No 27: July 2011

Issue 27 reports on a 24-year old Ladakhi Buddhist monk, Jigmet Basgo, this year’s President of the Ladakhi Students Union in Varanasi, taking the initiative to organize a two-day Initiatives of Change workshop for students in the northern Indian city of Leh. Ahtsham Ali, Muslim advisor for Her Majesty’s Prison Service and President of the Islamic Society of Britain, has said that frustration with injustice is one of the root causes of extremism. There is also news from Rwanda, Canada, Romania and the UK. In People Building Trust Mike Brown talks to Joseph Wainaina, whose home was burned down and relatives killed in Kenya’s ethnic violence. Wainaina wanted revenge. Now he ‘does peace’ criss-crossing the land building trust at the grassroots level.

Global Update No 26: May 2011

Issue 26 reports on young British Muslims offering a contribution to the review of the Preventing Violent Extremism policy, with the launch of a ‘Learning to be a Peacemaker’ programme in the UK in Parliament on Tuesday 22 March before an audience including Members of both Houses of Parliament. The peacemaking work of Nigerians Imam Muhammad Ashafa and Pastor James Wuye continues to spread ripples around the world. There is other news from Kenya, Sudan, Switzerland and the United States. In People Building Trust Sevérine Chavanne talks to Imad Karam, a Palestinian Muslim who, together with a British Christian, makes films which tell stories of trustbuilding and hope.

Global Update No 24: January 2011

Issue 24 reports on the positive response by people of all backgrounds in the US and Canada to the message of hope in the book Trustbuilding by Rob Corcoran. Nigerian peacemakers Pastor Wuye and Imam Ashafa have recently visited Malaysia and the UK, which included the UK launch of the film An African Answer. There is also news from Lesotho, the Netherlands and Kenya, plus a call for leaders of integrity in banking. In People Building Trust Suresh Mathew and Dilip Patel report on a far-reaching initiative, where over 12,000 workers, supervisors and senior executives of Bangalore’s electricity supply company have gone through Initiatives of Change training programmes in the past year – and are currently doing a second-phase ‘power of transformation’ programme.

Global Update No 23: November 2010

Issue 23 reports on the Creators of Peace initiative, which has become active in 30 countries over the past year. There is also news of new phase in the governance of Initiatives of Change International, plus news from India, Switzerland and the Ukraine. In People Building Trust Susan Korah interviews Lt General John Sanderson, the former Commander-in-Chief of the Australian armed forces and former Governor of Western Australia, whose vision is for a world where truth, justice and responsibility to the environment are central pillars of a new social, economic and political order.

Global Update No 22: July 2010

Issue 22 reports on the launch of the new film An African Answer and of the All Africa Conference, both taking place in Kenya. There is also news of the next phase of the Gandhi 'voyage of dialogue and discovery' in Romania, Japan, the USA and Mexico. Creators of Peace Circles were held in Kenya's troubled Rift Valley, Muslim-Christian dialogues have taken place in Australia and the findings of the economic and social impact of the United Nations were presented at a ‘Greencoat Forum’ in the UK. There is no People Building Trust in this issue but instead 2 pages of extra news.

Global Update No 21: May 2010

Issue 21 reports on the Gandhi 'voyage of dialogue and discovery' in Indonesia, South Africa, Nairobi, Kenya and Palestine.  There is also news of the Tools for Change conference in Kuala Lumpur and the launching of the new book on Trustbuilding by Rob Corcoran in Richmond. In People Building Trust one young educator shares why she believes Lebanon’s 18 different communities could find a common history to teach future generations.

Global Update No 20: March 2010

Issue 20 reports on the recent Life Matters course which took place in Australia. Hope-Sierra Leone has coordinated a series of reconciliation and symbolic reburial ceremonies around the country. A new book on Trustbuilding by Rob Corcoran has been published. There is also news of Rajmohan and Usha Gandhi embarking on a six-month ‘voyage of dialogue and discovery’ starting in Indonesia in March, plus news from Sudan, UK and Indonesia.  In People Building Trust Mike Lowe reports on how travels in Asia showed José Carlos León Vargas from Mexico that poverty has no borders.

Global Update No 19: January 2010

Issue 19 reports on the fifth Parliament of the World’s Religions, which took place in
Melbourne, 3–9 December 2009. Liverpool Hope University, UK, hosted an IofC forum in November. There is also news from the United States, Copenhagen, Uganda, the UK and Ethiopia. In People Building Trust Susan Korah writes about Chea Vannath, who was sent to a forced labour camp in Cambodia by the Khmer Rouge.
