TRANSFORMING SOCIETY & CULTURE
![]() |
People are shaped by the cultures and societies they are part of. They also can play a part in shaping those cultures.
Social ills such as racism, corruption, family breakdown and selfish materialism may seem so deeply engrained that the individual cannot make a difference. Yet strategic programmes can mobilize wide support, becoming a rallying point for those who want to to bring a change.
IofC programmes to transform society and culture include:
- Hope Sierra Leone – Sierra Leoneans working to free their country from the ravages of war, corruption and poverty.
- Clean Elections Campaign – educating voters about issues of corruption and inviting all to pledge to refuse to participate in bribery or violence.
- Foundations for Freedom – a program for training and developing young leaders in Central and Eastern Europe. F4F fosters commitment to the values that underlie a truly free society at all levels of government and civic life.
- Hope in the Cities – bringing communities together to address the issues of racial healing. Launched in Virginia, USA, the program now has partners in Europe, South America and Australia.
- A heart and soul for Europe – a series of 'honest conversations' between Europe's diverse peoples, old and new, in search of a commitment to the basic shared values which can give Europe a united heart and soul.
- India I care – encouraging Indians to make a difference wherever they are through acts of personal responsibility which contribute to the 'character bank of India'.
- Renewal Arts – an international network of people who share the conviction that the different forms of art can be positive and powerful forces for changing our personal lives and the wider world.
